DEIFICATION OF THE OPPOSABLE THUMB

Eric Anderson

Some learned how
to hold the Word,

the oxcart handle,
their lover's head under water.

The rest of us
learned to cope

with the soreness
in our chests and wrists.

We thought practice
would be enough

but leverage alone
is pointless.

Arm's length
can mean ownership

only if
the grip is right.

I wrote "Deification of the Opposable Thumb" while I should have been taking notes on a lecture titled: Prehensile Movement and Non-Prehensile Movement of the Humanoid Hand.
