SCHEMATIC OF THE LANE RELATIONSHIP FOR QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

A number of geomorphic relationships are available that can provide insight on the general characteristics of a channel and its response to various impacts or changes. The usefulness of these procedures is to provide the engineer or designer with a qualitative understanding that will guide quantitative calculations and assist in formulating conclusions.

This figure [right] illustrates that any natural or artificial process which alters channel slope can result in modifications of the existing river pattern.
