CHINATOWN

Erin Lyndal Martin

I took the seven-dollar boat
because I thought I'd seen you with a wedding ring

Ships on the surface like fallen gingkoes.
I inked my oars into the water,

stepped into red lanterns' foreign tongues.
Words I knew but my mouth would not form.

As far as I know, there is no Chinatown that requires a seven dollar boat ride. This was just a dream I had.
