Richard Fox

THERE WERE MULTIPLE THINGS WE DID

in all the wrong order

Dissatisfied
with the functioning of things
we get the vague urge
to tinker

We were wrong when we said
there is always time—
study the structure
of a crowd—
someone always leaving
or coming back—
someone always lost or missing

The title and entire first line of this poem are appropriated from a journal I found. Right now, I'm reading Charles Brockden Brown's eighteenth-century novel, Wieland and Memoirs of Carwin the Biloquist. I'm ever on the look-out for liftable images and texts.
