THE SEATING

Trey Moody

Blue chair on its plastic back. Grass
and its green leaning
                                       toward the dirt. More
is what we’ve wanted, and now—
a cue from the trees: consider the security
of your silences. Forget.
Listen when the earth becomes self-aware
and take the red chair in your hand, set it
on the ground; sit down.

"The Seating" began after viewing a painting by Katherine Fraser. Also, an attempt to write without stanza breaks.
