Welcome to Passages North
Online Passages
North is an annual literary journal sponsored by Northern
Michigan
University. It's put together, edited and loved by a bunch of
volunteers, mainly faculty and students, who love good literature
and
love sharing good literature.
Passages North Online is its internet extension, and somewhat goofy alter-ego: a spectacular wreck of webcode and half-realized aesthetic vision meant not only to offer our visitors a sample of the material that appears in the printed journal, but to inform about the various goings-on related to our journal and to generally amuse and entertain and brighten days! What's New With Us August 11, 2006 - New Contest Info is up for the 2006 Elinor Benedict Poetry Prize and 2006 Thomas Hruska Nonfiction Prize! The reading period for both is October 15, 2006 to January 22, 2007. Check the full details on our poetry contests and non-fiction contests pages. June 01, 2006 - Acting Webpage Guy stopped by to add a new image to the Visual Stimulus page, and to give the general assurance that our little nook of the web doesn't go forgotten in these lazy summer months! May 03, 2006 - Hmm, things have been a little quiet, it seems. But quiet is good. You can still see our fiction contest winners down below. April 01, 2006 - John Pursley III joins our growing list of poets featured on the Verse Daily website. John's poem "Hammerhead on the Atlantic," also in our 2006 issue, was the poem of the day for March 29! Excellent work! March 28, 2006 - Hat trick! Verse Daily's featured poem for yesterday was "Horse Poetica" by Matthew Thorburn, another gifted poet gracing the pages of our 2006 issue. Our congratulations to Matthew on his gaining some more recognition for his fine work! March 27, 2006 - Our congratulations go out to Paul Guest, the second Passages North poet to be featured on Verse Daily's homepage in the last week! Paul's poem "The Numbers are Not In" appears in our 2006 issue. We don't have a copy online here, but you can read it at Verse Daily or even order a copy of our 2006 issue. Marchrandom
