Hugh Steinberg

After Van Gogh's The Sower

In the morning the sun is made of grain,
and the grain is made of water,
in the water are pieces of the sun,
bent into curves of fire.

And there is a man,
and he walks on the water,
his left arm is crooked, he is
trailed by two birds.

Water is a voice
coming out of his eyes,
becoming green again
on a distant row of trees,

which sits on top of grain,
which is made out of sun,
the sun which is born
out of so many flowers.
