Mudlark No. 46 (2012)

Why I Have Trouble Falling Asleep
This Time of Year

The night speaks in tongues
The dogwood is a charismatic

The myrtle prophesies in pink
Glossolalia, and the flowering cherry

Translates. The moths settle like Chinese
Calligraphy on the willow my mother

Planted near the porch lamp; light from
Its bulb will recite their antennae

To any passersby, and that loud-
Speaker the moon will begin

Its hybrid dialogue
With a Joseph’s Coat Rose.
